My heart was broken

While walking down the street this morning to look for a new apartment, I met lola Juanita. At the age of 85, she is still working, doing some hilot for 20 pesos. She lives alone in her "barong-barong" down the bridge. Her husband died a few years ago and her children left her. I saw tears in her eyes when I inquired more about her children. I offered her a ride and gave 100 pesos for lunch, she kissed me in return. I can't forget her face full of desperations, her frail voice saying I should take care of my own mother. My heart was broken to feel her struggles. My experience this morning made me re-think about my plans in life. Indeed, twas one of the best conversations I've ever had.
